My name is Kei Harris, FGASA Professional field guide & founder of Wilderness Reunion. My intention is to create a space for others to remember the language spoken in what most people call the 'silence' of nature. It is within this reconnection or remembering our place within the natural world which will make clear to us our unconscious impact & inspire us to protect it

I am inspired to hold space for a true and real experience of wilderness & to inspire others to do the same for the health and benefit of the planet.
 

Throughout my own time spent in the natural world, I have been honored with my experience of deep connection to it. There is a wildness that we all still carry within us which connects us to the wild, that, I believe even beyond the denial of some that have become tamed to an artificial world. I think it just takes the right type of facilitation for those to remember it. I hope for the sake of the natural world that people can remember for themselves what it means to be reunited with wilderness, and to remember what it means to be connected to the natural systems of earth, I believe that this awareness reminds us of what it means to be human.

 

As we move through life, it becomes clear that the wildest places exist not only outside of us, but within us.

 

We are a species shaped over millions of years by the natural world. It has formed us, guided us, and remains a part of us still. Spending time in wild places allows us to reconnect with that essence, it is where we begin.
 

There is nothing quite like standing before an elephant as it considers you, or meeting the golden gaze of a lions eyes as it pierces you. Nothing like the reminder of your size when you realize that the wind prevailing from the ocean now brushes passed your cheeks in the bush, or pausing to recognize that a palm placed upon a tree is felt & acknowledged by the unseen fungal networks that connect all living and deceased plants around you. In those moments, something shifts.

 

It is inevitable that the natural world will change you the longer you spend with it.
 

My role is simply to open the door and guide you through it, the wilderness will do the rest.
 

I have chosen the name Wilderness Reunion to reflect exactly that.

In a world that continues to accelerate, there is no place more powerful to recalibrate, to return, and to remember our original pace. To remember that the silence of nature is in fact a sentient language that is remembered by our DNA.
