My name is Kei Harris, Professional field guide and the founder of Wilderness Reunion.
My intention is to create a space where you can remember the the intuitive language only heard in wild places, just like birds cant sing to eachother in cities, this language or song, is found only once the noise stops. By remembering our place within the natural world, we become conscious of our impact and find the inspiration to protect it. The natural world for us once was our first wonder. We just got a little lost along the way.
I am inspired to hold space for others to have their own experience of wilderness, to remember & embrace this connection for the well-being of ourselves and the planet.Throughout my time spent in the wild, I have been honored in my reminder by a profound sense of belonging. There is an inherent wildness within each of us that remains tethered to the earth, it may be a little muted by the modern race that we continue to retreat too, but it is not lost.
I believe that with the right facilitation, we can all remember this bond. For the sake of the natural world, I hope we can all reunite with the wilderness and re-establish our connection to Earth's natural systems, reminding us of what it truly means to be human. As we journey through life, it becomes evident that the wildest places exist not only outside of us, but deep within us as well.
We are a species shaped over millions of years by nature. It has guided our evolution and remains an integral part of our essence. Spending time in untamed places allows us to return to where we began. There is nothing quite like standing before an elephant as it considers your presence, or meeting the steady gaze of a lion. There is a powerful humility in realizing that the wind, traveling from the ocean, brushes your cheeks before moving on to nourish the land. When you place a palm upon a tree, you are acknowledged by the unseen fungal networks that connect all living things. In those moments, something shifts.
It is inevitable that the natural world will change you the longer you spend time immersed in it. My role is simply to open the door and guide you through; the wilderness will do the rest.
I chose the name Wilderness Reunion to reflect this homecoming. In a world that continues to accelerate, there is no place more powerful to recalibrate, return, and remember our original pace. The silence of nature is a sentient language that our very DNA remembers.
My very best wishes to you along your journey.
